Here we find one of the most sought after muscle cars of all time. It is a 1969 Camaro Convertible, owned by Mark and Melissa Murray. Mark, an attorney and law school teacher, brought us his little cruiser after having already upgraded the engine, transmission, front suspension, interior and stereo equipment. He had all the bases covered except one: the paint. We stripped the old finish off to find that his fun car was in need of some serious repair. Although the floor pan was unusually good, most every other panel had to be replaced or surgically repaired in order to bring the body up to proper standards. After the sheetmetal had been freshened up and the fit made better than GM ever intended, we moved into the seemingly endless hours of bodywork, priming and blocksanding. Once each panel was good and flat, some wet sanding prepped the body and parts for the application of color and clear. For this project, we, again, mixed a custom color for Mark’s approval. It is a dark blue pearl, that when in the sun literally comes to life. The color almost has a split personality when viewed in differing light sources. Paying tribute to nostalgia, Mark chose to add the classic Rally Sport stripes to the hood and decklid in white, to match the convertible top and interior trim. All in all, Mark and Melissa have allowed us to create a classic mixture of modern technology wrapped in a timeless package. As a successful attorney, Mark is very familiar with why we have rules in this society; but, considering the hot small block Chevy he has under the hood, it must be hard to follow all the rules of the road! That is why I have dubbed this sought after classic “Contempt of Court”.
